About Sejal
Sejal Lal is a violinist, singer, and songwriter from Surrey, BC. Sejal’s music is influenced by classical, folk, jazz, South Asian, soul and R&B music. Along with developing solo material, Sejal is one half of longstanding R&B-soul duo Laydy Jams, with Missy D.
Together, they’ve performed extensively, including at Indian Summer Festival, the UN Women Delivers Conference, Victoria’s Rifflandia, the Vancouver Jazz Fest, Cowichan Valley’s Laketown Shakedown, Winnipeg’s Festival du Voyageur, Nelson Mural Festival, SOFAR Vancouver, and have shared stages with artists such as K’naan, Shaggy, Aqua, Kimmortal, Francis Arevalo, Old Soul Rebel, Tonye Aganaba, Ruby Singh, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Cartel Madras, Mother Mother, and countless others.
In September 2022, Sejal’s original composition for Langston Hughes’ poem “Fulfillment”, was included in an exhibit at The Morgan Museum and Library in New York City, featuring the work of Ashley Bryan and Langston Hughes.
Sejal has also performed with and recorded guest strings and vocals for artists such as Missy D, Francis Arevalo, Desiree Dawson, Kin Balam, and Sister Says.
Sejal continues studying violin, songwriting, voice, and improvisation with her teachers, violinist John “Adidam” Littlejohn, respected multi-instrumentalist Davinder Hundal, and vocal coach Carla Chambers.
